Poitou-Charentes is a land so beautiful that many battles have been fought for its control between the French and the English monarchy. The mediaeval city is home to Futuroscope; one of France's largest theme parks, based on the use of the most modern multimedia techniques. Enjoy the soothing nature of the Marais Poitevin (Green Venice) or, further south, take in the annual Circuit des Remparts classic car racing in Angoulême's medieval centre. Visit an original Roman Arc de Triomphe in the beautiful town of Saintes or go to Richard the Lionheart's castle in Niort. One of the many places worth a visit is Cognac, where you can visit the distilleries and vineyards of Hennessy, Otard, Remy Martin, Courvoisier and the countless smaller producers.
