The Gites (three in total each having its own independent access) are situated in the small rural hamlet of Les Joncquiers within the outstandingly beautiful surroundings of the Luberon National Park. The property has a truly rural setting amidst fragrant lavender fields, orchards, wooded hills and lush green valleys and offers tranquillity, brilliant skies and pure air. Les Joncquiers faces Mount Negre, the highest point of the Grand Luberon Mountains - a range that stretches for about 65 kilometres between Cavaillon, in the east, and Manosque, in the west.
The small, quiet hill-top village of St Martin De Castillon can be reached in approximately five minutes and the larger town of Apt which has four supermarkets, many shops, restaurants and boasts a large vibrant weekly Market, is just 10 minutes away.
The Luberon is a beautiful region, rich in colour and outstanding natural beauty : lavender, sunflowers, olives, truffles, vineyards, austere white limestone hills and ochre-coloured villages.
It also has a long association with the worlds of History (ancient forts, spectacular abbeys, Roman architecture), Art (Van-Gough, Cezzane, Renoir), and Literature (Daudet, Pagnol, Voltaire and more recently Peter Mayle).
The Luberon offers a wide range of activities, from exploring the many markets (there is a market every day some where in Provence), hill-top villages, wine tasting, painting, to the more physical pursuits such as rock-climbing, canoeing, tennis, golf, horse-riding - not to mention the abundance of walking and cycling routes.
Provence boasts the largest Canyon in Europe ? the Gorges du Verdon. Within this area is the lake of St Croix which offers a wide range of recreational facilities. Provence also boasts the towering Mont Ventoux ? the Giant of Provence, almost 2,000 metres above sea level. Although one can ascend this mountain by car or foot, it is one of cycling?s most famous mountains, and has a place in the history of the Tour de France.
The larger cities of Avignon, Arles, Aix-En-Provence are within an approximate one hour's driving distance. Similarly, the busy seaside resort of Marseilles can be reached within about an hours drive and other coastal areas such as Cassis, the Calanques, the Camargue and the cosmopolitan Cote D?Azur areas of Cannes, St Tropez, and can also be enjoyed as a daytrips.
The Luberon is the heart of Provence, an area that has attracted many for centuries.
