Chez Mesnard is at the heart of the Charente Maritime region being well placed for all facilities needed to enjoy a holiday in a warm climate -A climate which rivals Mediterranean resorts of the South of France in the Summer.
The nearest town of significance is Pons, and Chez Mesnard lies less than 10 minutes by car to the South-East of this town. The slightly larger town of Jonzac lies about 15 minutes to the South. This town has a newly-built "Oasis" style water park - "Les Antilles". Both towns have plenty of shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and thriving weekly markets. In addition, both towns have an "Aire de Loisir" offering play facilities, bar, restaurant, pedalo hire, horse riding. Jonzac has a man-made lake and "beach" for safe bathing besides separate boating lake all in attractive surroundings.
Further afield but within a 30 minute drive are the beaches of the Gironde Estuary, as well as such memorable towns of Mortagne and Meschers. The extensive sandy beaches of St George de Didonne, La Palmyre and Royan are a little further up the coast but must not be missed.
La Palymre is also the location of an extremely impressive zoo which both children and adults can enjoy.
Heading inland from Chez Mesnard there are the towns of Saintes to the north and Cognac to the east, both about 20kms away. As well as a monthly market which takes over the whole town, Saintes offers a full range of shops, restaurants and bars, and boat trips on the Charente -which flows through the town- as well as having an excellent example of a well-preserved Roman amphitheatre.
Cognac, again situated on the River Charente, offers the same sort of extensive facilities as Saintes but with the added attraction of a number of Cognac houses - Martell, Hennessey, Otard and nearby Remy Martin.
