Changeover day: Saturday
This delightful haven can be found nestling in the idyllic rolling countryside of the southern Charente, enjoying the tranquillity of rural France at its best, whilst being within 10 minutes of two large villages (one of which is the picturesque and historic hilltop village of Aubeterre) which provide all the necessary amenities.
Stunning views, space to dream, fresh air and gentle rural rhythms await you in this beautiful and unspoilt corner of France. With the sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast, cosmopolitan cites, wine tours, good food, Romanesque churches, pre-historic and natural wonders, innumerable outdoor activities and animated local markets available between ten and ninety minutes away, you truly can experience the best of both worlds!
Description of accommodation
Located in a traditional French hamlet this spacious cottage sleeps up to five. The cottage has its own private large enclosed garden and courtyard with ample parking and play space. The cottage is centrally heated and therefore suitable for year-round occupation.
The bedroom contains a double and single bed, with the full size lounge sofabed sleeping two more. The fully equipped kitchen includes a washing machine, microwave, gas cooker and fridge. The shower room also contains a bidet, and the separate WC is off the main bedroom. In the lounge there is a television (French programmes only), video, DVD and a radio/cassette/CD player, in addition to a number of books and board games. The large window in this room provides a pretty view of the garden, the village pond (complete with fish) and the surrounding countryside.
Being on one level, the cottage would provide suitable accommodation for someone with mobility difficulties, although some of the doors would not comfortably allow the passage of a wheelchair.
Outside, garden furniture is provided including loungers, and table and chairs and sunshades. There is also a barbecue.
The cottage is a non-smoking environment and occupants are requested to refrain from smoking indoors.
Sheets, pillowcases and towels can be provided.
The cottage's location on the edge of the Dordogne is the perfect base from which to explore the area's historic towns and landmarks, visit the many country markets and try out the excellent local produce. Nearby outdoor activities include walking, cycling, swimming, fishing, tennis, golf, horse riding, canoeing, archery and windsurfing. Notable local weekly markets include Riberac and Chalais.
Local places of interest to visit abound. Pre-historic sites, Romanesque churches, Josephine Baker's chateau and cave homes in the Dordogne; wine and chateaux tours in particular around Bordeaux and Cognac; the monolithic church at Aubeterre; the riverside beaches at St Aulaye and Aubeterre; the Atlantic coast line with its long stretches of safe and clean sandy beaches and Europe's largest sand dune, the Dune de Pilat; the beautiful and historic port of La Rochelle; the Museum of Animation and the chocolate factory of Angouleme - all this and more await you on your sojourn in the beautiful, sunflower-filled southern Charente.
